About this site

Australian Children is a small, independent site about how kids live, play and go to school in Australia. It started in the early days of the web and has been rebuilt more than once — the current version adds a schools section where you can search and compare every school in the country using ACARA's published data.

We have a few house rules:

• Comparison, never assessment. The schools section never ranks, rates, grades or awards stars. The figures describe a school's community and size — they can't tell you whether a school is right for your child.
• Every figure carries its source and vintage. School data comes from ACARA's School Profile dataset (the data behind My School), and each data page says when its figures were last checked.
• No sponsored picks. Where the site compares products — like children's savings accounts — nothing is ranked, and inclusion is never paid for. The site may show ordinary display advertising, which has no say in what gets written.

Corrections

If a figure looks wrong or out of date, tell us — pages get fixed, not defended.
